BECOMING A LACROSSE OFFICIAL





Do you think you'd like to give lacrosse officiating a try? We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals to become new lacrosse officials. If you have prior lacrosse experience or presently officiate other sports, you are strongly encouraged to apply. Even if you don't have any experience at officiating or with lacrosse, our association will attempt to train you if your willing to put forth the effort.

All new official will be required to attend training classes held by our training coordinator and other experienced officials. During classroom sessions, new officials will go over the rules, their application during a game, field mechanics, and game administration. Game films and a training video will be used. Upon completion of the classroom sessions new officials will receive on the field training by officiating at a high school scrimmage tournament with experienced trainers. Those that wish to work high school games in Pennsylvania will also have register with the state to take and pass the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) written exam. This years training classes are taking place in three locations: Charleston, WV; Erie, PA; and Pittsburgh PA. You must pre-register to attend one of the classes by contacting the chapter secretaty. The schedule for the training is as follows:

  • Charleston, WV - TBA
  • Pittsburgh, PA - 1/23/10 at 9AM; 2/20/10 at 10AM; 3/6/10 at 9AM; and on field class TBA
  • Erie, PA - TBA.
